Dan creates the vision and strategy enabling federal, and state governments, DoD, intelligence agencies, and education organizations to achieve their goals in dynamic and competitive environments. Dan integrates with world-wide governments, partners, and technologists developing digital transformations to address current and future challenges.

Previous Microsoft roles include CTO DoD and Chief Architect DoD. Prior to Microsoft, Dan managed a medium sized company where he held a multifaceted responsibility within a senior management role providing critical direction and strategic leadership. As an entrepreneur in the early IT days, Dan created a successful startup that developed a unique document imaging system for Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO).

Dan gains his military experience from 21 years of service as an Army aviator flying attack helicopters and Test Officer in R&D for tactical communication systems and information technology. Dan’s tours include US, Germany, Korea, and Iraq.

Dan holds a Ph.D. in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity, an MBA in Management Information Technology, and a BS in Information Technology.

Ron Ross

Ron Ross' focus areas include cybersecurity, systems security engineering, cyber resiliency, security architecture, privacy, and risk management.

Ron Ross is a Fellow at NIST. His focus areas include cybersecurity, systems security engineering, cyber resiliency, security architecture, privacy, and risk management. Dr. Ross leads the FISMA Implementation Project and the Systems Security Engineering Initiative, which includes the development of cybersecurity and privacy standards and guidelines for the federal government, contractors, and the U.S. critical infrastructure. Dr. Ross also leads the Joint Task Force, a partnership with the Department of Defense, Office of the Director National Intelligence, U.S. Intelligence Community, and the Committee on National Security Systems, with responsibility for the development of the Unified Information Security Framework for the federal government and its contractors. Dr. Ross previously served as the Director of the National Information Assurance Partnership, a joint activity of NIST and the National Security Agency. Dr. Ross also supports the U.S. State Department in the international outreach program for cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection.

A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Dr. Ross served in many leadership and technical positions during his twenty-year career in the United States Army. He is a five-time recipient of the Federal 100 award for his leadership and technical contributions to critical cybersecurity projects affecting the federal government and is a recipient of the Presidential Rank Award. Dr. Ross has also received the Department of Commerce Gold and Silver Medal Awards and has been inducted into the National Cyber Security Hall of Fame. In addition, Dr. Ross has been inducted into the Information Systems Security Association Hall of Fame and given its highest honor of Distinguished Fellow. During his military career, Dr. Ross served as a White House aide and a senior technical advisor to the Department of the Army. He holds a Bachelors degree in Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy and Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School specializing in artificial intelligence and robotics.

In 1998, Chris assumed the position of Personnel Security Specialist responsible for initiating and maintaining contract personnel security clearances. In 2004, Chris was assigned as an Information System Security Officer (ISSO) for several CJIS systems to include the CJISWAN and, in 2014, was promoted to a Supervisory ISSO position overseeing ISSOs of all CJIS systems. In October 2017, Chris was selected as the CJIS Division Information Security Officer to focus solely on the Advisory Policy Board and Compact Council.

Tony Cole is a cyber expert with over thirty-five years of experience, as a strategist, risk expert, advisor, and board member.

Tony Cole is a cyber expert with over thirty-five years of experience, as a strategist, risk expert, advisor, and board member. Today, he’s the CTO at Attivo Networks, the global leader in the cyber deception space working to detect and defend enterprises from cyber-attacks.

Prior to joining Attivo Networks, Mr. Cole held executive positions at FireEye, McAfee and Symantec. He’s retired from the U.S. Army, where he worked in intelligence, communications, and cryptography around the world including building out the Network Security Services at the Pentagon. Mr. Cole served previously on numerous boards and government committees and today serves on (ISC)² Board of Directors as Treasurer and Chair of Audit and Risk. He also serves on the NASA Advisory Council as a Member-At-Large under appointment by the NASA Administrator.

In 2014, he received the Government Computer News Industry IT Executive of the Year award, and in 2015 he was inducted into the Wash 100 by Executive Mosaic as one of the most influential executives impacting Government. In 2018 he was awarded the Reboot Leadership Influencer Award by SC Media. He has a bachelor’s degree in computer networking and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

Derek Holbert

Mr. Holbert's career with the FBI began in April 1997 as a Telecommunications Specialist assigned to the Network Operations Center, and he joined the CJIS Audit Unit in March 2007.

Derek Holbert was born and raised in West Virginia and is a graduate from East Fairmont High School in Fairmont, West Virginia. Mr. Holbert attended Fairmont State University in Fairmont, West Virginia, where he received a Bachelor of Education degree in 1994. Mr. Holbert obtained his MPA from West Virginia University in 2001 and a Master’s degree certificate in Information Assurance and Security from Capella University in 2011. Mr. Holbert obtained his PhD in Information Technology Education from Capella University in 2013. His career with the FBI began in April 1997 as a Telecommunications Specialist assigned to the Network Operations Center. Mr. Holbert joined the CJIS Audit Unit in March 2007 as a technical auditor with the IT Security Audit team.

Kevin Cardwell

Kevin Cardwell served as the leader of a 5 person DoD Red Team that achieved a 100% success rate at compromising systems and networks for six straight years. He has conducted over 500 security assessments across the globe. His expertise is in finding weaknesses and determining ways clients can mitigate or limit the impact of these weaknesses.

Kevin Cardwell served as the leader of a 5 person DoD Red Team that achieved a 100% success rate at compromising systems and networks for six straight years. He has conducted over 500 security assessments across the globe. His expertise is in finding weaknesses and determining ways clients can mitigate or limit the impact of these weaknesses.

He spent 22 years in the U.S. Navy. He has worked as both software and systems engineer on a variety of Department of Defense projects and early on was chosen as a member of the project to bring Internet access to ships at sea. Following this highly successful project he was selected to head the team that built a Network Operations and Security Center (NOSC) that provided services to the commands ashore and ships at sea in the Norwegian Sea and Atlantic Ocean . He served as the Leading Chief of Information Security at the NOSC for six years. While there he created a Strategy and Training plan for the development of an expert team that took personnel with little or no experience and built them into expert team members for manning of the NOSC.

He is an Instructor, Curriculum Developer, Technical Editor and Author for Computer Forensics, and Hacking courses. He is the author of the EC Council Ethical Hacking Core Skills, Advanced Penetration Testing and ICS/SCADA Security courses. He has presented at the Blackhat USA, Hacker Halted, ISSA and TakeDownCon conferences as well as many others. He has chaired the Cybercrime and Cyberdefense Summit in Oman and was Executive Chairman of the Oil and Gas Cyberdefense Summit. He is author of Building Virtual Pentesting Labs for Advanced Penetration Testing 1 st and 2 nd edition, Advanced Penetration Testing for Highly Secured Environments 2nd Edition and Backtrack: Testing Wireless Network Security. He holds a BS in Computer Science from National University in California and a MS in Software Engineering from the Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Texas. He developed the Strategy and Training Development Plan for the first Government CERT in the country of Oman that recently was rated as the top CERT for the Middle East. He serves as a professional training consultant to the Oman Information Technology Authority, and developed the team to man the first Commercial Security Operations Center in the country of Oman. He has worked extensively with banks and financial institutions throughout the Middle East, Europe and the UK in the planning of a robust and secure architecture and implementing requirements to meet compliance. He currently provides consultancy to Commercial companies. He provides training and consultancy to the Oman CERT and the SOC team in monitoring and incident identification of intrusions and incidents within the Gulf region. He holds the CEH, ECSA. LPT, APT, CHFI and a number of other certifications.

Brian's team’s main project at present is the development of quantum-resistant public-key cryptographic algorithms and protocols. Brian is also a founding member of the Microsoft Cryptography Review Board and consults on security and cryptography architectures, protocols and implementations across the company.

Brian LaMacchia is a Microsoft Corporation Distinguished Engineer and heads the Security and Cryptography team within Microsoft Research (MSR). His team’s main project at present is the development of quantum-resistant public-key cryptographic algorithms and protocols. Brian is also a founding member of the Microsoft Cryptography Review Board and consults on security and cryptography architectures, protocols and implementations across the company. Before moving into MSR in 2009, Brian was the Architect for cryptography in Windows Security, Development Lead for .NET Framework Security and Program Manager for core cryptography in Windows 2000. Prior to joining Microsoft, Brian was a member of the Public Policy Research Group at AT&T Labs—Research.

In addition to his responsibilities at Microsoft, Brian is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Informatics and Computing at Indiana University-Bloomington and an Affiliate Faculty member of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington. Brian also currently serves as Treasurer of the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR) and as a Vice President of the Board of Directors of Seattle Opera. Brian received S.B., S.M., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT in 1990, 1991, and 1996, respectively.

Mr. White has 36 years of experience in public sector information technology (IT) and IT security with the vast majority of those years leading, supervising, and managing personnel and programs across a broad spectrum of IT environments.

Mr. George A. White currently serves as the Unit Chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Information Assurance Unit. Mr. White has 36 years of experience in public sector information technology (IT) and IT security with the vast majority of those years leading, supervising, and managing personnel and programs across a broad spectrum of IT environments. In 2006, Mr. White entered on duty with the FBI at the CJIS Division in Clarksburg, West Virginia and subsequently held a number of progressively broader positions including Technical & Security Architect; Supervisory IT Security Program Manager; Division Information Security Officer & Program Manager; and Unit Chief. Prior to joining the FBI, Mr. White was employed as a Senior Analyst by Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), supporting the Department of Defense (DoD). During this time with DoD, Mr. White led the analysis, assessments and demonstrations of leading edge technologies for the purpose of filling technological gaps identified by Combatant Commanders. The twenty years prior to joining SAIC were spent at a multitude of global assignments as an active duty uniformed member of the United States Air Force (USAF) with all twenty years of his career spent working within the communications and information systems space. Mr. White is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and holds a BS CIS from St. Leo University.
